  • The Korean society is truly on the verge of taking off towards a grand transformation. The so-called developmental state model followed by the one led by neo-liberalism has represented Korea’s development for close to three decades since the 60s. Such development models have however reached their limits, having lost their relevancy(Chang et al, 2016). In order to overcome endemic issues, such as weakened growth, dualization of society, and distrust among socioeconomic actors, there is a need for a paradigm shift in the development model of Korea worthy of being called a grand transformation, namely one based in “fair competition,” “social integration,” and “increased capacity for innovation.” At the same time, the Korean society must pioneer a new mature socioeconomic development model to enable an efficient government and the spirit of collaborative governance with the
    participation of labor, management, and the civic society.
